Emory University Discloses $15 Million Bitcoin Investment Through Grayscale Trust

In a notable move in the academic investment sector, Emory University has revealed ownership of more than $15 million in shares of the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust. This disclosure, detailed in a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), makes Emory the first American university endowment to publicly report direct exposure to bitcoin.

Alongside its substantial position in Grayscale’s Bitcoin Trust, Emory also holds 4,312 shares of cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, with a current estimated value of around $931,800. This diversified crypto investment reflects a growing interest among institutional investors in digital assets.

Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Emory University is a private research institution renowned for its academic rigor in fields like medicine, law, business, and the liberal arts. The university consistently ranks among the top U.S. universities, and its endowment, valued at approximately $9 billion, strategically supports the institution’s long-term goals.

This investment could signal a broader acceptance of digital assets within university endowments, which have historically invested in more conventional assets.
